Looking for gifts for the traveler friend in your life? After close to five years of travel in any style imaginable, from budget backpacking to lounging in luxury, you can trust that I’ve got solid travel gift ideas.
Frankly, I don’t recommend buying travel gear for your loved ones because key items like luggage, photography equipment, and clothing are highly subject to personal requirements. Instead I’m sharing goods that I frequently use, and in which I’ve found great joy.
I believe the travelers in your life (and you) will appreciate these travel gifts, so let’s get shopping…
This is a gift any travel enthusiast will love. My travel scratch map, displayed on the wall at home, shows all the places I’ve been and reminds me of where I’ve yet to venture. It looks like a dull, ordinary world map – until you scratch off the gold foil coating to reveal the colorful countries underneath.
Although there are virtual world maps on sites like Lonely Planet or TripAdvisor where you can show off where you’ve traveled, nothing beats having a lovely physical map of your unique experiences. You can even scratch off just parts of a country if you’ve only visited certain cities (don’t cheat!) Click the images above for the black version or one with scratch-off flags as well.
Practical Goods & Gear
If you think water filters are only useful for hikers and campers, think again. They’re invaluable in cities where free, clean tap water is hard to come by and you want to save money and the environment by reducing your bottled water consumption.
The Sawyer Mini is the smallest and most lightweight water filter out there that removes bacteria and protozoa, and also fits onto a PET screw-cap bottle. It works like a straw so you can fill your bottle from a tap or creek – and drink away!
The Fujifilm Instax Share printer connects to your smartphone/tablet via a Wi-Fi connection that it generates, allowing you to print Instax film photos from your phone gallery or from Facebook/Instagram. More importantly, if you use a Fujifilm camera, you can connect it to print directly from your camera too.
